Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange information between a web server and a client. Since the info exchanged by the 2 sides is protected, a third party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of managing an Internet hosting account. The commands which can be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared server, for instance, the options are limited as you won't have root access to the machine, so you may just create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, etcetera. They are all actions that are carried out inside the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. By using a virtual or a dedicated server, you shall have the option to install server-side software or to restart the server or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like OS, there are a number of apps for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

With some of them, it's offered as standard, while with others it is an additional upgrade that you can include with a couple of clicks in your hosting CP. You may get SSH access through the section related to it where you can also find the information that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You can select the password that you'll use and, if necessary, you'll be able to modify it with a couple of mouse clicks from the same spot. If the SSH access feature is permitted for your account, you will also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

If the feature is listed as an additional upgrade, you may quickly include it through the Add Services/Upgrades link inside the Hepsia CP and it shall be available within a minute.
